History and Organization
The Society was founded in 1977 when 83 graduates of the German Wine Academy were formally inducted in a ceremony at the German Embassy in Washington, DC. The Society has been present in the Bay Area since the early 1980s. The San Francisco Chapter was reorganized at the beginning of 2006 to operate under the guidance of a management board to be elected annually. More details may be found in the Chapter's By-Laws.
